Why E-Safe

The UAE is a centrally located regional hub with world class infrastructure. More than 206 nationalities reside here which means the influx of digital information into the country can come from anywhere around the world. According to recent statistics the UAE has world’s second highest internet penetration at 92% with over 8.8 million residents now online. The country also tops the region in smartphone user penetration at 64.6%

UAE has always been a frontrunner in championing the issues related to child protection and online abuse. The Ministry of Interior’s Child Protection Center launched an awareness campaign this April, with the slogan “Together to Prevent Child Abuse”. This November, they also joined forces with the Virtual Global Taskforce (VGT) which is an international alliance of law enforcement agencies and private sector partners dedicated to combating online child sexual abuse.

Some of the long terms goals and initiatives of the government of UAE, like the Vision 2021, reflect their visionary approach to develop and advance human society and provides platforms that are aligned with the project strategy and goals embedded in the proposed program.

E-Safe foundation was established with the prime goal of creating a safer online experience for the society and protecting children from all types of exploitation. We have a team of experienced professionals who have many years of global knowledge and skills to back us. The speed at which the violence is being perpetrated against children calls for an urgent response from the society.
The expert domain knowledge of the E-SAFE executive team in collaboration with other international experts would carry out trainings, capacity building, awareness raising, legal and policy advocacy related to Internet safety. The organisation will capitalise on the team’s strong linkages with UN and expert global agencies to implement global best practices locally with a nuanced understanding of the nation’s cultural and ethical values.

As technology matures and spreads, the acceptance of social network and internet become more widespread. But it has been observed by E-SAFE and other major child rights agencies globally (including UNICEF) that measures to protect children from exploitation using ICTs is largely inadequate.

Moreover children and youth are gaining access to inappropriate content that distorts normal perceptions and impede the natural development of children. Increasingly, the online space is becoming a territory for online offenders to communicate with each other and take advantage of the gaps in legislation by misusing the tools that were developed for normal communication purposes. With the popularity of the internet, all these problems will only escalate to a higher level. Our children can only stay protected when we, as a country can continue to have total confidence on the online environment for learning, sharing information, education, entertainment and all digital e-governance services.

E-Safe foundation has been established with the very goal of creating a safer online experience for the society with a key focus of safeguarding the rights of children to ensure they can benefit from the advances of internet technology while remaining protected from all types of exploitation.
We are a UAE based, non-profit organization that strives to be a centre of excellence, aiming to empower society to use Internet responsibly and to protect children from online risks by educating and raising awareness, building capacity, assuming an observatory and advisory role, and collaborating with multi-stakeholders to contribute to the nation’s prosperity.
To be a sustainable and globally recognized hub for Child Online Protection by 2021.

“As a country which upholds humanity and child empowerment as its core values, child internet protection is a major factor that we have to tackle. E-SAFE is working in close tandem with the government and other international agencies to help provide efficient solutions to this great social menace”
